Basking

It seems some folk will do anything to get exposure to the sun, although I wonder if it really was warmer four metres up a tree than on the ground.

Is that a look of immense satisfaction? An ‘I’m the king of the castle’ moment?

Or perhaps, ‘It isn’t really all that comfortable up up here, and I’m just waiting for you to go away so I can scramble back down.’

That is too cute. Either way, he does look like he’s enjoying himself. I’m not used to seeing that kind of creature in a tree. I would think he might prefer a rock to sun himself on.

Although I wouldn’t like say it doesn’t happen, I have never seen one of these lizards up a tree but I have seen a goanna climb one, and they are huge.

What a stunning photo. Brave creature – definitely has a better head for heights than me! 🙂

It was rather a surprise to see him there, Lis. He did get down quite soon after the photo, but I missed his descent.

Well spotted Jane. It would have been a surprise to look up and see a lizard that size up a tree. Most unusual.

    1. Jane says:

We certainly were startled to look out and see it there. We also felt it was unusual to see a lizard up a tree like that. It will be interesting to see if it happens again!

If I saw something like that up in one of my trees in Provence, France, I would run far and run fast. In Mexico, ok; but here not so much …..

Hi Bonnie, it’s really a very harmless lizard, so nothing to be worried about. Although I wouldn’t like it to run up my leg!

Fabulous photo! Make and model please 🙂

    1. Jane says:

Thanks Gill. It’s a Bearded Dragon, quite a common lizard and one I’ve seen in the garden before. Well, perhaps not that exact one, but certainly a relative.

Thawing out after the Winter…… Wow, that was special!

    1. Jane says:

      Quite a surprise!

  7. Or “if I’m still for long enough she won’t know I’m here”. He looks very comfortable up there.

    1. Jane says:

He (?she) does, but the stay was quite brief. I didn’t catch the descent, unfortunately.

Great photo, Jane. He or she seems to be waiting for a nice morsel they come by.

    1. Jane says:

I’m sure there were some unsuspecting insects around. It was a great spot from which to keep an eye on things.

What a sight! Good spotting, Jane.
