One Kind Word

‘One kind word can warm three winter months’ Japanese Proverb

Mr MG has been travailing in the studio and out of the artistic endeavour and angst has emerged this work which I think fits the proverb perfectly.

What do you think the story behind this painting could be?

What a beautiful quotation and a wonderful painting! I want to know the story too. 🙂

    1. Jane says:

I’m glad you like the painting, Gill. I’m very fond of it myself.

  2. Glen Ivers says:

The mother , seated, dressed in black .mourning… husband passed away a short time ago ….Eldest daughter ..dressed in white ………stands , reluctantly, in front of her mother to inform her , that she is pregnant to the lowly paid , residing stockman .

    1. Jane says:

Good scenario. Could you be channelling Henry Lawson, Glen?

  3. Chris Muller says:

Two women doing what they do best for each other.

    1. Jane says:

They do, so that could be the answer, Chris.

  4. Glen has done well with this lovely, enigmatic ,painting

    1. Jane says:

Glen didn’t do the painting, Derrick, although he is related to the artist. I’m glad you like it.

  5. Kris P says:

Lovely proverb (although I’d probably refer to summer as winter is largely a benign period that can bring blessed rain). I like Glen’s story. Perhaps daughter adds” You don’t have to live alone in that tent behind you because dad’s gambling debts left you destitute. Come live with Harry and me – our shack has enough room for you. You can take care of the baby while I go to work.”

    1. Jane says:

A good plan. Kris, Everyone wins!

  6. I love the soft colours in this painting. It definitely looks as if there is an interesting conversation going on between these two ladies.

    1. Jane says:

The possibilities seem endless, don’t they.

  7. Tom says:

The seated woman puts me in mind of a female Don Corleone, hearing out a niece’s request on her daughter’s wedding day. Perhaps permission for her husband to open up a speakeasy in family territory. “Tell Roberto he is free to conduct his business as he wishes” muses Dona “and perhaps the day will come when I in turn ask you for a favour”….

    Great painting.

    1. Jane says:

Thanks for the comment, Tom. I like this scenario.

  8. Vicki says:

    I agree with Glen’s comment 😀

Women usually sit next to (or stand next to) each other to chat, so the younger lady obviously wants the older lady in a submissive lower position before she breaks the bad news.

    1. Jane says:

Yes, you certainly get the feeling there’s bad news in the offing.

  9. This is such a beautiful painting! I can’t top the various scenarios offered by other commenters, but I love its quiet, somewhat restrained drama. It really is lovely – hat’s off to Mr MG’s talent.

    1. Jane says:

Thank you for your kind comment, Anna, I will pass it on to Mr MG!
